Dear Chapter 2 Member,
Greetings in the New Year! The
chapter has been quite busy.
Grants
Dr. Lucy Weinstein was a
recipient of the AAP "Teen
Safe Driving Grant" and is
now embarking on this ambitious
project across the Chapter. Drs.
Dina Lieser and Jack Levine
continue with their important work
on the AAP "Healthy People
2020 Grant" that they
received last year, working with
our child care community. Dr. Lieser is also currently working on her
AAP "Healthy Futures:
Improving Health Outcomes for
Young Children Medication
Administration Curriculum"
grant, which focuses on medication
administration in day care. The Chapter, however, was not
successful in winning the Healthy
Active Living Grant.
Advocacy
Chapter leadership and
members have been focusing on
state and federal advocacy and
relationships. We will be
participating in AAP District II's Advocacy
Day in Albany and encourage
all of you to join us. Attendees
will have the opportunity to:
- Hear
presentations from state
leaders in health care and
insurance, from both the
legislature and the state
agencies. Attendees will also
be able to ask questions.
- Meet with your own state legislators!
We will schedule
legislator appointments for
those attendees who are
interested.
Advocacy Day is a wonderful
opportunity to get our message
across to those whose
decisions directly impact the work
that we do. If you want to
know more, please contact George
Dunkel at gdunkel@aap.org or
Jessica Geslani at jgeslani@aap.org.
Recruiting New
Members
And as always, we are
focused on recruiting new members.
Again, any help would be much
appreciated, even talking with the
people you work
with, to make sure that they are
members of the Chapter.
Upcoming Events
The dates in the Upcoming Events box on the right should be locked into
your calendar. Your
attendance at the three
lectures/conferences is a benefit
of belonging to AAP NY Chapter 2.
Obesity
Survey
Below is link to a survey on
obesity. We have been working
with a medical student and are
quite interested in hearing from
our members as to how they
are approaching this topic.
The survey will take 15 minutes
and we will have the results
available in our next
newsletter. Please help us
in completing the survey:
