What is it supposed to do?

Used for the treatment for premenstrual symptoms (PMS) and menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea).

How it is supposed to work:

It is not well understood how Black Cohash is supposed to work. Recent studies have shown that this herb does not possess phytoestrogenic effects (phytoestrogens are defined as plant substances that produce female hormone-like effects).

Toxic effects:

Black Cohash can cause minor gastrointestinal effects in low doses. High doses (e.g. 5 g of the drug or 12 g of extract) can lead to vomiting, headache, dizziness, lowered blood pressure

Does it work?

No well-controlled studies show that it works.
