What it's supposed to do?
Increase athletic performance.
How it's supposed to work?
Creatine is used in the muscles
for energy. Our bodies make our own Creatine and we also get it in meat
and fish. It's thought that taking in more Creatine may give muscles
more energy.
Does it work?
Creatine can give the muscles
more energy ONLY for repeated intense spurts of activity, such as repeated
200m dashes. It does not help with usual sports or activities.
Is it safe?
Not really.
Creatine can cause water
retention, kidney failure, muscle cramping, diarrhea, nausea, dehydration,
headache, and dizziness.
The American College of Sports
Medicine advises against its use.
