The American Academy of Pediatrics, District II, Chapter 2 Committee on Youth and Adolescence is pleased to bring you this referral resource web page for use in your practice.
Over the years, we have frequently received calls from busy pediatricians with questions such as "What do I do with a 15 year old who is using marijuana daily?" In this booklet we have attempted to provide you with referral resources for some of the more common adolescent problems such as alcohol and substance abuse, care of the pregnant adolescent, eating disorders, emergency contraception, the management of gay and lesbian youth, HIV-AIDS, smoking cessation and termination of pregnancy.
We have listed the resources by county and have tried very hard to ensure that these programs are appropriate for teenagers.
The committee does not, however, endorse any particular program, nor does it claim to be all-inclusive. It is simply a guide to help you when faced with an adolescent in trouble.
Finally, programs come and go and we recognize that this booklet will need to be updated every few years. If you are aware of any good programs in your area, which are not included here, and are appropriate for adolescents, please provide us with the information either via the Chapter 2 office (516 326-0310) or by E-mail (golden @lij.edu). We welcome your suggestions.
