Learning Objectives: 

  1. To discuss the impact of childhood obesity during childhood and adulthood.
  2. To discuss nutritional issues with parents and or children to help prevent obesity.
  3. To discuss lifestyle issues with parents and or children to help prevent obesity.

Needs: Pediatric obesity is now of epidemic proportions in the United States.  Pediatric overweight and obesity now affects more than 30 percent of children, making it the most common chronic disease of childhood.  However, pediatricians and parents often feel helpless in preventing and treating pediatric obesity.

  2. Clear up misperceptions about bullying and its solution
  3. Developing a bullying prevention initiative in your practice

Needs: 56% of students have personally witnessed some type of bullying at school.  Bullying does not just happen face-to-face.  Students and young adults may also struggle with embarrassing or hurtful messages via text or online.  How can the pediatrician play a role in the prevention of bullying and youth violence?
